between English
Reading and Writing
Abstract:
Reading
and writing are two important skills in English
learning. English is
one
of
the
most
important
languages
,
but
it
is
not
easy
to
grasp
and
apply
well.
Reading and writing are input and
output respectively. The relation between reading
and
writing
is
closely
related.
Reading
and
writing
can
not
be
separated.
They
influence each other.
Reading is the preparation for good writing. And
the training of
writing can improve the
quality of reading. The relation between reading
and writing
can
help
one
in
English
teaching
in
and
out
of
class.
Also
the
way
of
thinking
influences ones reading and writing.

. Introduction
English is the first foreign language
for us and we have learnt it for more than 9
years from the elementary school to
university. Although we had spent a long time in
learning this language, there are still
some students finding it hard to control. I think
that is because of their limitation in
vocabulary and do not know the words exactly.
Doing
more
English
reading
and
writing
exercises
are
necessary.
It
can
improve
English learning
quickly.
Listening,
speaking, reading and writing are the four parts
of language learning. And listening,
reading are the input process, speaking, writing
are the output process. We all know
that output needs a large number of inputs. When
children went into the school, they
have been able to master the basic speaking skills
and also be able to express their
wishes. Reading and writing are the tasks, of
mother
tongue learners in school.
However, for foreign language learners, they did
not have
much time to do a lot of
listening and speaking practices. Foreign language
learners,
at the beginning of learning
a foreign language, not only remember the
pronunciation
and spelling of words,
but also use every word they have learned in a
right way. For
foreign language
beginners, they will face a lot of
difficulties.
According to
the last 20
years of English teaching
situation in China
,
it is
very difficult to go hand in hand
with
achieving in listening, speaking, reading and
writing for Chinese students.
In the
past, for some
reasons in particular, English teaching emphasized
more the teaching
of
the
input
than
the
output.
This
requires
English
educator
to
think
seriously
and
drive to improve reading skills and
writing skills actively. Therefore, it is
important
for us to study the
relationship between English reading and writing.
English has a wide range of
vocabularies and it is a most flexible language in
the
world. There are also different
ways to make a statement. The most important thing
is
to be alive to these differences. In
reading, you can know different English new words.
In the meantime, you do not need to
look them up in the dictionary immediately when
you find them hard to understand in a
complex sentence, just catch the key words of

the
sentence.
After
reading
the
whole
composition,
you
can
look
them
up
in
the
dictionary, and then you
can find the
correct way of
these words in using and learning
them
by heart. It is a good way to make your vocabulary
as complete as you can and
know the
words correctly at the same time. Writing is quite
different from reading. It
is a
productive ability and it is necessary to do more
reading exercises before writing
a
composition.
When
we
are
writing,
we
do
not
simply
put
words
and
sentences
together in sequence, but also spend
more time going over what has been previously
written and pondering on how the text
might
most effectively
develop
from it.
The
author must also think about whether
his text will be understood by his reader. These
writing processes determine the writer
to write a good piece of writing. We can follow
these procedures to develop our writing
skill: the training of cohesion, the training of
coherence
and
the
training
of
guided
writing.
This
thesis
tries
to
pursue
how
to
develop
our
English
reading
and
writing,
and
the
relationship
between
English
reading and writing.

Reading
presupposes writing.
What is
reading? From the life long, reading is to live.
Reading can change the
life.
Reading
can
not
change
the
length
of
life,
but
can
change
the
width
of
life.
Reading
may
change
the
coordinate
and
the
path
of
life.
From
the
literature
angle,
Reading is appreciate the wisdom and
listening to the comments of famous masters.
Reading
is
our
shadow;
it
can
not
be
separated
from
our
life.
Reading
is
more
versatile than the image, more cleanly
than memory, more profound than meditation.
It lets you stand on the shoulders of
giants, lets you thoughts exceed the thoughts of
great man. From the language angle,
reading is decoding, encoding and the process of
recognition.
Reading
is
a
mechanism.
The
reader
is
decoding
by
the
visual
input's
language and writing mark's information
to obtain information which the author wants
to express originally. Reading is not
only reading many words, but also a positive
skill,
it includes continuous
reflection, speculate, forecasting, inspection,
and self. Reading
comprehension is not
only a unique kind of cognitive activities of
human being, but
also a complex
physiological, psychological process. This process
requires readers to
take advantage of
mastering the skill of reading, and appreciate the
author
’
s intentions
through the
author
’
s language symbols,
get the meaning of these symbols to achieve
the
author's
thought.
Reading
process
essentially
is
the
language
information
to
understand the process. In reading, you
can know different English new words. In the
meantime, you do not need to look them
up in the dictionary immediately when you

After
reading
the

As everyone knows, reading not

a cognitive process according to the meaning

text
and
recreated
or
reconstructed
in
the
readers
’
memory.
Therefore,
in
the
process of
our reading,
we should not
only focus
on explaining
words, but
also
lay
emphasis on analyzing
the rhetorical relation between sentences.
By doing this, we can find
out the cohesive devices used in an article and
analyze
the
relation
of
meaning,
logical
relations
and
therefore
grasp
the
coherent
meaning
between sentences. We can also get the
main idea of the article by way of delete the
unnecessary
information;
select
the
necessary
information,
and
sum
them
up.
Meanwhile, we must learn
more background knowledge as much as possible.
Moreover, we must improve our ability
of predicting, inferring and generalizing;
we can do some preparations according
to the following procedures:
1. Find
out the topic sentence in each paragraph and think
about how the article
as a whole with
its meaning.
2. Read the some article
and divide it into several parts according to
meaning.
3. Summarize the main idea of
each paragraph.
4. Guess the intention
of the writer in writing the sentence, the
paragraph and the
article.
5. Find out the key words in each topic
sentence. Pay attention to how these key
words are used to develop sentences
into a coherent passage.
A. Influence
English reading on English writing.
Reading
cannot
substitute.
In
fact,
reading
is
a
part
of
our
lives,
a
part
of
our
teaching.
Currently
in
English
teaching
process,
we
usually
keep
reading
course
divided into intensive and extensive
reading. Through intensive reading, students can
easily feel the effects of learning.
Intensive reading is not only to enable the
students
to
grasp
the
content
of
the
text,
but
also
consciously
to
cultivate
students
’
writing
skills.
Teaching the students to identify the
meaning of each word and let them know
how to use each word
correctly.
In this procedure
we can not abandon the use of the
minor
term.

Words

syllable
work
. It described the
effect of minor term to writing well. For
instance,
there are lots
of small words, and good ones, which
can be made, say all the things you want to say,
quite as well as the big ones …. Small
words can be crisp, brief, terse—

charm of their own. They dance, twist, turn, sing.

course to

teaching
process
principal
mode
of
English
reading
class
is
Bottom-
up.
According to this
mode
,
the reader in the way
which decodes carries on to reading
materials'
comprehension.
To
start
with
simple
words,
carries
on
the
information
processing,
clarifies
the
phrase,
the
sentence,
the
paragraph
gradually,
until
to
understand
chapter
and
author
intention.
In
the
model
of
Bottom-
up,
the
teacher's
main task is to help the students solve
problems of language knowledge.
The reading
process should
not only be seen as an application process of
linguistic knowledge, It
can also be
regarded as a gradual change process of reading to
writing.
